What is Delta-10 THC?
There are more than 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. As the THC and CBD market continue to thrive, other cannabinoids are slowly penetrating the shelves of cannabis dispensaries. Delta-10 THC is one such cannabinoid that is emerging in the cannabis market today.
Unlike CBD and Delta 9, Delta-10 occurs naturally in trace amounts in the cannabis plant. It is an exhaustive endeavour to extract it directly from plant material, and therefore, it has to be produced through technological means.
How is Delta-10 THC Produced?
Other cannabinoids like CBD and THC are naturally abundant in specific cannabis strains. Today, you cannot find strains that are high on Delta-10 THC, and therefore, it has to be produced the same way as Delta-8 THC through the isomerization of hemp-derived CBD.
The method of producing Delta-10 requires pure CBD extract. Hemp undergoes a rigorous extraction procedure to yield CBD crude or CBD isolate. The crude or isolate is further processed to form Delta-10 THC. Through this method, the final product is federally legal.
How Delta-10 THC Affects the Body
There is insufficient scientific data on how delta 10 affects the human body. Nevertheless, Delta-10 THC possibly interacts with the cannabinoid receptors in the body in the same way as other psychoactive compounds do. For instance, both Delta-8 and Delta-9 bind with the CB1 receptors found in the brain and the central nervous system to produce psychotropic effects. In the same way, Delta-10 may also interact with the CB1 receptors in the endocannabinoid system to deliver the same effects.
The Psychoactive Effects of Delta-10 THC
Delta-10 THC can deliver a psychoactive effect when taken in high concentrations. However, it does provide a different effect compared to other THC compounds. For instance, Delta-9 delivers a more intense impact on the user’s thought process, pleasure, coordination, memory, and perceptions. Delta-8 provides a much lower psychotropic potency than Delta-9, and users usually report experiencing appetite stimulation and more relaxation.
Delta-10 also produces a much weaker psychoactive effect than Delta-9, but users report that the effect is much different from Delta-8. It is more likely to provide an energizing effect that promotes alertness and creativity. Hence, the uplifting high is more appropriate for daytime use when people need to be more energized and alert.
In comparison, Delta-8 produces a similar effect as the Indica strain, while Delta-10 delivers an effect that is more indicative of Sativa. Based on firsthand user experiences, Delta-8 would be best for users who yearn for better relaxation or are looking for sleep aid, while Delta-10 is best for users who want a more uplifting feeling.
Is Delta-10 THC Legal?
As long as Delta-10 THC traces its source material from hemp, it is federally legal. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC and is compliant with the 2018 Farm Bill. The process of producing legal Delta-10 THC requires the use of hemp-derived CBD. Therefore, as long as the compound is derived from hemp, it should be entirely legal.
However, Delta-10 THC derived from the marijuana plant is illegal. Remember that marijuana is one of the many schedule 1 controlled substances. Therefore, any product derived from it, including synthetically-derived THC, is also considered a controlled substance.
If you live in an area where delta 9 THC is prohibited, you can still enjoy Delta-10 THC products as long as you purchase hemp-derived versions. Note that products such as Delta-10 THC, Delta-8 THC distillate, and other psychoactive hemp products may be considered illegal by some state laws. Therefore, check the laws in your governing state before buying Delta-10 or Delta-8 products.
